- How did we do it? The adaptation features special interstitial voice-over commentary by Dr. Maya Angelou - to help viewers move through the condensed story. From her first interview for the original film in 1988, through her on-camera readings of Baldwin's work in 1989, to the very end of her life - Dr. Angelou supported our project. As a last favor, she invited us to her home in Raleigh, NC ... to record her commentary, specifically for this one-hour version of "The Price of the Ticket."
It was her final contribution to the legacy of her dear friend Jimmy. She recorded her lines just months before she passed.
